TELKOM MAKHULU SWIM ATTRACTS A LARGE FIELD
Close to 2 000 swimmers took part in the annual Telkom Makhulu Swim that took place
at Leisure Lakes in Midrand on Sunday 23 February. Virgin Active and Energade were
co-sponsors of this popular event.
The fastest time in the 1 000m swim was recorded by Neal Crawford who won event 4
(men 14 - 30) in 12:36. The top women swimmers were Cindy Strydom who won event 3
(women 14 - 30) in 12:54 and Natasha Boshoff who won event 1 (girls 13 & under) also
in 12:54.
All the category winners in the 1 000m events won a gold medal, trophy and product
prizes.
Graham Paulsen (age 14 years) was the victor in the 500 metre fun swim. He clocked 7:58.
Natasha Boshoff had enough stamina left to also win the 500 metre fun swim in 8:44.
According to the race organiser, Leon Swanepoel of Sportsvendo, the event took place
in lovely sunshine weather. "The event is growing each year and it is our goal to
make the Makhulu Swim the Midmar Mile of Gauteng", he said.

The category winners are as follows:
EVENT 1 (1 000m Girls 13 & under): Natasha Boshoff, 12:54.
EVENT 1A (1 000m Women 31 & over): Wilma Daniel, 13:24.
EVENT 2 (1 000m Boys 13 & under): Ryan Paulsen, 13:13.
EVENT 2A (1 000m Men 31 & over): Greg Price, 13:42.
EVENT 3 (1 000m Women 13 - 30): Cindy Strydom, 12:54.
EVENT 4 (1 000m Men 14 - 30): Neal Crawford, 12:36
EVENT 5 (500m Male fun swim): Graham Paulsen (age: 14), 07:58.
EVENT 5 (500m Female fun swim): Natasha Boshoff (age: 13), 08:44.M
